Particle analysis with submicron IR spectroscopy and simultaneous Raman – Microplastics, fibers and atmospheric aerosols

Asst. Prof. Andrew Ault and co-workers demonstrate the novel application of submicron IR and simultaneous Raman for the physiochemical analysis of atmospheric aerosols with aerodynamic diameters <400nm. Vibrational spectroscopy (IR and Raman) has great potential for atmospheric aerosol characterization, but the diffraction limit of traditional IR microscopy (~10 microns) makes this impossible.

In their recent publication, the team has shown for the first time, how Optical-Photothermal IR (O-PTIR) spectroscopy can be used for non-contact, far-field submicron particle measurements to yield high spectral spectra that are easily searchable and interpretable. Furthermore, they demonstrate how combining this analysis with simultaneous Raman provide for a more thorough chemical characterisation of the atmospheric aerosols, proving a rich information on their organic and inorganic composition.In conjunction with Dr Mustafa Kansiz, Director of Product Management at PSC we are proud to present this cutting edge webinar.
