Applications scientist

We are seeking an applications scientist to join our team. This opportunity requires an individual who is self-motivated, passionate about technology, works well in a team environment and is interested in creating an outstanding customer experience.

Summary of duties

  • Analyze samples and perform product demonstrations at our application laboratory or at customer sites worldwide
  • Perform on-site installations, technical support and user training
  • Attend trade shows and conferences to introduce our technology and promote new applications
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with our network of academic and industrial collaborators and customers
  • Participate in the development of new instrumentation, techniques and applications
  • Provide technical and applications advice to colleagues

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a science or engineering field, preferably with a focus in organic chemistry, polymer research or life science research
  • Experience with vibrational spectroscopy techniques such as IR and Raman
  • Experience in life science microscopy techniques
  • Excellent communication skills in English both spoken and written
  • Willingness to travel
  • Experience using nanoscale IR spectroscopy (AFM-IR) or O-PTIR or is preferred

Office assistant

Our downtown Santa Barbara tech company is seeking an office assistant to join our team. This is a part-time position, up to thirty hours per week, but could turn into a full-time position, should we find the right candidate. This opportunity requires an individual who is self-motivated, conscientious, and works well in a team environment. This individual will provide office/administrative support to accounting, operations, and sales and marketing teams. A successful candidate will be passionate about working as a team member in a research and development, and manufacturing, environment and will be comfortable wearing many hats to accomplish the goals of the broader organization. The position is entry level with the ability for growth within the company for a driven individual.

Summary of duties

  • Performing a wide variety of analytical, administrative, and organizational duties for the accounting, operations, and sales and marketing areas of the business
  • Performing general clerical duties to include but are not limited to: data entry, photocopying, faxing, and mailing
  • Organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files; shredding documents as directed
  • Running errands and performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Assisting with other special projects

Qualifications

  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with staff at all levels verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Able to work independently or in a team
  • Able to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns
  • Able to use discretion and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and possibly PowerPoint
  • Experience with QuickBooks a plus, but not required
  • A professional attitude
